Paris Day 8: Aug. 29, 2008

We got a little bit of a late start again because I cooked a nice, big breakfast. We had to be at The Louvre by 11am for our tour. Luckily, the metro and everything worked in our favor and we arrived with a few minutes to spare. We paid a little extra to have the introductory tour in English. This gave us a chance to see the Mona Lisa, La Venus de Milo, Louis XV's coronation crown and various other great works of art. It was the perfect amount of time -- one and a half hours. We got the best out of Shane. (As I will continue to comment on: Poor Shane had to do everything on foot because SOMEONE stole his trike at the Eiffel Tower. Bad karma...that is all I have to say!) It wasn't easy for him but he was a trooper. After having a latte at Starbucks at the Louvre, we mailed our post cards from a post office at The Louvre which was pretty cool (and a relief to have done). Afterward, we rewarded Shane with a one and a half hour boat ride on The Seine. It was awesome and we all enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I let it slip that we had a kidsitter coming and he did get really bummed out, but Jason bribed him with the prospect of a Star Wars action figure that he had been wanting. Once we got back to the apartment, Jason set out to find it; however, it wasn't that easy since there really aren't any French kids in France...or at least in Paris. I think we may have seen about 5 the whole time we were there and they were at the kids salon. Jason literally ran around the entire city looking for the action figure which he eventually found and saved the day. Our kidsitter Christine was very nice, responsible and even cleaned our apartment for us. SWEET!
It was nice for Jason and I to dress up and get out like grown ups. We really needed it. We took a taxi over to the bar at the Plaza Athenee which is in the Champs Elysees. We had some stupidly expensive drinks but it was fun to splurge and experience the grandeur. Then we took a taxi back to St. Germain -- right in our neighborhood -- and went to a restaurant/club Alcazar. It was a bit touristy but the Prix Fixe menu was out of this world. It was THE best dinner of the trip (even better than our inexpensive fillets). Also, they had a DJ in the lounge so, after dinner, we hung out talking listening to good music until 1am. It was really a fun night in gay Paris. On the way home, some French people mistook me for a French TV personality -- I love that kind of stuff.
